    Bon A Petite!

    German Red Cabbage

    1 large head red cabbage
    1 large purple onion
    18 whole cloves
    Salt, to taste
    2 small McIntosh cooking apples
    1/2 teaspoon vinegar
    15 slices bacon

Core cabbage and finely chop. Stick all cloves into whole onion. Cut apples in quarters. Put chopped cabbage, onion, apples, salt and vinegar in pan. Add enough water to cover cabbage. Cook, covered, for 45 minutes.

Remove onion and apple and drain water. Fry bacon crisp, then crumble. Add bacon bits and grease to cabbage. Serve.
